Be kind. That’s it. Just be kind. Be the person that you’d like to be around.
Imagine that. A world where everyone is nice. People look out for each other. People support each other. No one steps on anyone else to further themself. No one puts profits over the well being of others or the planet we share.
It’s entirely possible. It is 100% within the realms of possibility. Being kind doesn’t cost anything and it would make the world a better place. A rising tide floats all ships, after all.
So, why don’t we do it?
Maybe changing the world is outside the scope of this website. When it comes to how we should behave at work though… Be approachable and support others in their work where you can. It is absolutely not necessary for others to fail for you to succeed. In fact, if everyone pulls together, you’ll all get to your destinations quicker and you’ll have a much smoother journey. When you help others, they are more likely to help you when you need it.
As a manager or business owner, it’s up to you to foster an environment where decency is the standard. If you want to get the best out of people, you need them to want to be there and to want to give it their all.
A supportive, friendly work culture is a free way to boost engagement and productivity. A bonus perk is people will feel safe to voice their ideas and suggestions, and you may just get something golden.
As with all things, there is of course a caveat. Without mutual respect, some may take advantage. Just make it clear what's expected of everyone. No one is expected to be perfect but they are expected to do their best.
